cPanel and Plesk are the two most widely used hosting control panels, and both do the same core job: let you manage websites, email, databases, files and SSL without touching the server's command line. A control panel sits between you and the server. Through a web interface you can:

- Linux and Windows. Plesk runs on both, which matters if you have ASP.NET or MS SQL sites.
- WordPress Toolkit. Manage WordPress installs, updates, plugins, themes and staging copies from one screen (availability depends on your host's edition).
- Per-site PHP settings. Choose a PHP version and handler per domain.

Things to know:
- Fewer third-party tutorials than cPanel, though documentation is thorough.

Switching from cPanel to Plesk
If you are moving from a cPanel host to a Plesk host, the concepts map directly:
- cPanel account becomes a Plesk subscription; add-on domains become additional domains.
- File Manager and FTP work the same way.
- MySQL databases export as
.sqlfiles and import through phpMyAdmin. - Mailboxes need to be recreated, then messages copied over with IMAP.
- DNS: point your domain at the new server once everything is tested.
A typical manual migration:
